Community Comes Together to Welcome Frederick Douglass High School

Last month, CHAI staff gathered a group of enthusiastic volunteers to join in welcoming Frederick Douglass High School (FDHS) students and teachers to our neighborhood. While the FDHS building undergoes significant renovations for the next two years, its students and faculty will be based in the former Northwestern High School building in the Fallstaff neighborhood. To kick off the school year, CHAI joined community partners at several exciting events to show the FDHS community a warm welcome. Alongside the Mayor’s office, Councilman Yitzy Schleifer’s office, the Department of Planning, Park Heights Renaissance, Thread, Word of Life Christian Community Church, and community volunteers, CHAI supported a teacher’s “Welcome Huddle”, a “Welcoming Plenary” by Principal Dave Verdi, and a FDHS Back to School Bash. CHAI staff were also on site for the first day of school. With a shared commitment to fostering strong community ties, we look forward to supporting the FDHS community throughout this transitional period.
