Where We Work
CHAI’s primary service area is comprised of five northwest Baltimore City neighborhoods:
Cheswolde, Cross Country, Fallstaff, Glen, and Mount Washington.
CHAI also operates some programs in the Pimlico Good Neighbors and Arlington neighborhoods in Central Park Heights in partnership with other local organizations, as well as Pikesville and Owings Mills in Baltimore County. See details below.
Cheswolde is a quiet, residential neighborhood made up of single-family homes and garden-style apartment complexes. Cheswolde enjoys proximity to several synagogues, transportation and a popular shopping pavilion. Find out more on their Facebook page.
Cross Country is located on the tree-lined Western Run Stream. This neighborhood (that harbors a little-known Frank Lloyd Wright gem) is comprised of single-family homes and apartment communities. Cross Country is home to Cross Country Elementary/Middle School that excels in STEM education.
Fallstaff is a small, but diverse residential community with a commercial corridor that features several eateries and specialty shops. Fallstaff Elementary/ Middle School, which features a large, renovated community playground, is located in the heart of the neighborhood.
Glen, with its tree-lined streets, has the distinction of being the only Healthy Neighborhood in CHAI’s footprint. Glen residents are active participants in the Glen Neighborhood Improvement Association. The neighborhood offers single-family detached homes, rowhomes, and apartment buildings at affordable prices. Residents enjoy many local community spaces, including Luckman Park.
Mt. Washington features an array of housing styles, from small apartment complexes to stately single-family homes. In the heart of the neighborhood sits Mt. Washington Village, a historic landmark known for its myriad restaurants and quaint shops. Mt. Washington is home to The Mount Washington School, houses a Light Rail station, and is situated in close proximity to I-83.
In addition to its three Senior Living Residences in Pikesville (Weinberg Terrace, Weinberg Gardens and Weinberg House), CHAI offers home repair and benefits services for eligible older adults, as well as supporting school-community engagement in the Pikesville public schools.
CHAI's Weinberg Villages I-V, nestled in a quiet corner of Owings Mills, is a serene campus of affordable one and two-bedroom apartments for seniors age 62+.
Central Park Heights
CHAI's Single Family Homeownership Program rehabilitates vacant and blighted properties in the Arlington and Pimlico Good Neighbors neighborhoods for resale to families. CHAI also develops and owns affordable housing communities for families and older adults in these neighborhoods.
