Supporting Public Schools

For over 25 years, CHAI has worked to strengthen the fabric of neighborhoods in northwest Baltimore by partnering with local public schools. CHAI established the School Community Partnership Program (SCPP) in 1997 to support three public schools and their communities in northwest Baltimore City by connecting schools with resources, programs, and partners and by providing technical assistance to schools and community associations. In 2014, we added the Pikesville public schools to our work. Over the years, we have served principals, faculty, students, their families and guardians, and other community stakeholders to assess school and student needs. SCPP continues to advocate for and support the public educational institutions of both northwest Baltimore and liaise between the schools and their communities. CHAI currently serves Cross Country Elementary/Middle School, Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School, The Mount Washington School in Baltimore City and eight public schools in Pikesville.

Community School Lead Agency for CCEMS

CHAI became the lead Community School Agency for Cross Country Elementary/Middle School (CCEMS) in July 2023 as a part of the Baltimore City Community Schools Model, an initiative aimed at establishing schools as community hubs. This initiative allows CHAI to staff a full-time, on-site Community School Coordinator to strengthen CHAI's efforts to support student achievement and parent engagement, and bring additional resources, programs and partners to the school. Additionally, CHAI supported the recent transition of CCEMS into their new facility. Explore the new facility features and see how students and members of the community are using the new space.
