Thousands of Calls to Our Older Neighbors

One of our most pressing concerns during this time of social distancing is making sure that older community members are safe and engaged. CHAI staff, volunteers and members of Northwest Neighbors Connecting have made thousands of check-in calls to assess the needs of seniors who are living independently. After the caller establishes that their essential needs (food, medication, etc.) are being met, the remainder of the conversation is an opportunity for connection proving to be uplifting for both parties on the line. CHAI’s work to combat isolation in the senior community did not start in response to COVID-19. To learn more about our innovative programs to keep seniors connected, read this interview with our Vice President of Aging in Community, Tiffany Nicolette and listen to the Pull Up a Chair Podcast, featuring residents of Weinberg Villages, Weinberg Place and Weinberg Woods, talking about how they utilize Alexa voice technology to help find information, surf the web, listen to music and more. |
