The Needlers: Northwest Neighbors Connecting through Crafts

August 7, 2025

In 2016, Northwest Neighbors Connecting (NNC) member Ms. R found herself with a collection of rug-hooking materials passed down from her father. Wanting to share the materials and experience, she invited fellow NNC members to her home. What started as a casual gathering nearly a decade ago quickly grew into a creative community that meets regularly to enjoy all kinds of needlework—embroidery, crochet, knitting, and more! Today, the group of nine meets at another member’s apartment in Strathmore Towers to create handmade items and meaningful connections. To give their crafts another purpose, the Needlers often donate the hats and scarves they’ve created to Jewish Community Services. The group loves to share various techniques with one another and is always happy to welcome beginners. When asked what her favorite part of NNC is, one member said it’s “being with different people I wouldn’t have met otherwise.”
