Supporting Northwest Schools Through Strong Partnerships

April 16, 2026

For decades, CHAI has partnered with public schools in northwest Baltimore to connect students, educators, and the school community with resources that expand learning opportunities. Recently, we had the privilege of bringing together principals and Community School Facilitators from our Pikesville partner schools with Phyllis and Louis Friedman, whose generosity through the Samuelson Foundation and the Gordon Trust provides funding for enrichment experiences that might not otherwise be possible. During the gathering, school leaders shared a few stories that illustrate how these grants are making a difference: six students attended STEM camp and are now excelling in sciencefield trips to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia became accessible to all students; and boys gained confidence and learned skills like tying a tie through a mentoring program. Hearing about these experiences directly from school leaders was a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to support its students. For Phyllis, a former Pikesville educator, the moment felt especially meaningful. The Friedmans were thrilled to see the tangible impact of their support. CHAI is proud to help facilitate this partnership that strengthens our schools and our community.
