Supporting Every Stage of Aging

Two northwest Baltimore sisters built their lives side by side, sharing a home for decades and rarely spending much time apart. In 2018, they connected with CHAI through the Senior Home Repair and Benefits program, at a time when maintaining their home on a very limited income was becoming increasingly challenging. Over the years, CHAI helped ensure they could remain safely and affordably in their home by providing safety updates, completing repairs, and connecting them to financial assistance that eased the burden of homeownership. Like many older adults, the sisters hoped to remain there as long as possible. When their needs began to shift, CHAI helped them navigate what came next, exploring affordable housing options within CHAI’s senior communities where they could remain comfortably in the community. Within the past year, one sister moved into Weinberg Gardens, and just recently, the other was offered an apartment down the hall. Now 83 and 92, they are once again just steps from each other, able to live independently while remaining closely connected, with CHAI continuing to support them.
