Good Deeds Day Cleanup Brings Community Together

May 8, 2025

Rain couldn’t dampen the spirit of service at this year’s Good Deeds Day cleanup at Western Run Stream! On a rainy Sunday in April, 44 volunteers gathered at Cross Country Elementary/Middle School (CCEMS), including students, Principal LaShella Stanfield, and school staff. Students earned community service-learning hours and a pizza lunch for their participation, while CHAI’s Community School Coordinator for CCEMS made sure everyone stayed dry with free rain ponchos. Rebecca Mark from the Mayor’s Office joined the effort, and the Jewish Connection Network helped coordinate the event, making it a true community collaboration. CCEMS were able to reuse the cleanup supplies for their Earth Day event later that month, ensuring the impact continues. CHAI is proud to partner with schools, city leaders, and residents to foster pride, stewardship, and connection in northwest Baltimore’s neighborhoods — rain or shine.
