From Pages to Purpose

Pages turned and imaginations were active as a member of Northwest Neighbors Connecting (NNC) read Valentine’s Day books to kindergarten students at Millbrook Elementary through the school’s Book Buddies program. After listening to the stories, the students took turns reading back to the volunteer, and the group finished with an art project, creating their own Valentine’s cards. Hugs were exchanged, leaving the classroom full of connection and joy for both the students and our NNC member. This visit continues a long tradition of NNC members volunteering to read with students through CHAI’s School Community Partnership Program. CHAI’s team works together to connect its program participants with resources and opportunities like this to get more involved in the community. A day of volunteering gave our NNC member a meaningful way to engage with youth while the children enjoyed the individual attention and encouragement. Small moments like these create connections across generations, building stronger communities so residents of all ages can thrive.
