FMOP Bridges Gaps Through Collaboration and Conversation
One of the goals of the Fallstaff Multicultural Organizing Program (FMOP), a collaboration between the Fallstaff Improvement Association, CASA and CHAI, is to bridge cultural gaps by celebrating diversity and engaging Fallstaff community residents in meaningful conversations. In January, FMOP hosted a virtual celebration that included a facilitated a discussion using the Crossing Borders curriculum, which was developed by CASA de Maryland, the Center for Community Change and the Fair Immigration Reform Movement. The engaged group centered their conversation around the experiences of the African American, Latino and Jewish communities in the U.S. Participants had the opportunity to share their personal stories about racism and prejudice in a safe space, leading to a deeper, cross-cultural connection among neighbors.
