David Rubenstein Visits the Bagel Boys

This week, the Myerberg Center’s Bagel Boys men’s club had an especially notable guest: David Rubenstein. A Baltimore native, Rubenstein is the Chairman, CEO, and principal owner of the Baltimore Orioles; Co-Founder and Co-Chairman of The Carlyle Group; and an author, historian, and philanthropist. Mr. Rubenstein spoke about his life journey— from growing up in northwest Baltimore to his education, early work on political campaigns, his path into private equity, and ultimately, his purchase of the Orioles. He discussed US history and antisemitism and closed with meaningful comments on philanthropy. The crowd of over 100 people filled the room with a sea of Orioles caps, jerseys, and orange-and-black attire. Between questions, laughter, and shared Baltimore pride, the event captured the kind of moments that make the Myerberg unique. And while this week’s speaker may have been extra special, every week the Bagel Boys know they can count on coming to the Myerberg on a Tuesday morning for a bagel, a speaker, and the warm feeling of being part of a wonderful group.
