Connecting Prospective Buyers to Homeownership Opportunities

CHAI’s monthly homebuyer education workshops continue to help Baltimore residents build the knowledge and confidence to achieve sustainable homeownership while connecting them directly to new opportunities in their neighborhoods. During a recent two-day session attended by 23 participants, CHAI’s housing counselors guided prospective buyers through every stage of the homebuying process, including budgeting, credit readiness, loan qualification, contracts, inspections, and long-term home maintenance. The workshop also featured CHAI’s redevelopment partner Victor Akinnagbe of Rebirth Development, who shared updates on homes currently undergoing major rehabilitation in Central Park Heights and information about a new $20,000 down payment assistance program available for properties revitalized through Maryland’s Baltimore Vacants Reinvestment Initiative (BVRI). Victor’s participation gave attendees a clearer picture of what homeownership could look like in their own community and generated strong interest in upcoming trolley tours of available properties. Through housing counseling and our continued partnership with Rebirth Development and Maryland’s BVRI program, CHAI is helping transform vacant properties into homeownership opportunities and connect Baltimoreans to those opportunities, together strengthening neighborhoods and creating pathways for long-term housing stability.
