CHAI’s Residents are Aging in Community and in Style

December 4, 2025

Ms. S’s apartment at Weinberg House in Pikesville was one of the first units in the building to be fully renovated as part of CHAI’s ongoing efforts to modernize and enhance its affordable housing communities. The renovation is part of CHAI’s Preservation Project, through which we are revitalizing 1,599 of our original units to continue serving low-income older adults for decades to come. When Ms. S returned to her newly renovated apartment, she was excited to begin redecorating. She added personal touches to the upgraded kitchen and created a cozy living area with her signature all-blue theme, transforming the updated space into a home that reflects her personality. Knowing that residents like Ms. S have access to high-quality affordable housing that is equipped to support their goal to age in the community is exactly why this work matters. Investing in our buildings makes them more economically efficient and environmentally sustainable and reinforces the fabric of northwest Baltimore through the preservation of housing that helps older adults remain rooted in the communities they love.
