Celebrating the Power of Volunteers

May 14, 2026

CHAI’s efforts to strengthen the fabric of neighborhoods in northwest Baltimore are enhanced by the way volunteers who help older residents remain connected, independent, and able to age safely in the homes and communities they love. In March, that commitment was clearly seen through our CHAIway Volunteer program when three dedicated volunteer drivers supported 23 ride requests to medical appointments, errands, and essential trips that helped older riders stay engaged in daily life. Riders consistently shared appreciation for the kindness and reliability of their drivers, while volunteers described the experience as meaningful and deeply rewarding, especially in the relationships it helps build. This same spirit of connection extends across CHAI, including at the Myerberg Center, where nearly 50 volunteers help create a welcoming environment where members feel known, supported, and engaged each day. Across programs, volunteers do more than provide services; they help build the relationships and social connections that keep older adults rooted in their communities.
