Bringing Community Voices Together in Park Heights

Through its work with the Northwest Baltimore Partnership and the One Park Heights committee, CHAI convenes residents, schools, and local organizations to strengthen relationships and ensure community voices shape the future of Park Heights. As part of this ongoing work, CHAI facilitated a collaboration with the Inheritance Theater Project (ITP) and the Sankofa Children’s Museum of African Cultures, which began with a “Park Heights Dinner & PlayLab,” where more than 40 Greater Park Heights residents gathered for an evening of food, fellowship, and storytelling about Baltimore and the neighborhoods they call home. That shared storytelling continued at Fallstaff Elementary/Middle School, where 7th grade social studies students took part in two workshops led by ITP. Students explored historic images of Baltimore, imagined the stories behind them, created characters they might encounter on city buses, and co-wrote a collaborative poem about their city. This effort is part of a broader nine-month citywide process led by ITP that will culminate in a community performance on May 2, 2:00 pm and 7:30 pm at Center Stage and May 3, 3:00 pm at Third Space at Shaarei Tifloh!
