Aging Gratefully at the Myerberg Center

January 8, 2026

The Edward A. Myerberg Center is a hub of joyful activity, where members build community and explore their passions. Three Myerberg members were interviewed for JMore’s annual Aging Gratefully cover story and shared how the Myerberg has helped them find creativity, purpose, and social connections. Bess Shuster was inspired to discover her artistic calling at the Myerberg by her late mother who used to paint there. Bess now focuses on mixed-media art, guided by a teacher she calls her biggest cheerleader. Mark Pressman credits the photography club with helping him slow down, savor life’s moments, and capture the finer details. Energetic by nature, Mark is also active in the Fitness Center, attends events, and serves on the board, noting, “There’s a million things always going on here.” Dr. Charles (Chuck) Weiner, a diagnostic radiologist, never considered himself an artist before retiring in 2020. Since then, weekly art classes have inspired him to create nearly 100 acrylic paintings and form lasting friendships. “We’re all good friends and give each other constructive criticism. We go to lunch every Wednesday,” he said. The “Aging Gratefully” feature, beginning on page 42 of the latest JMore issue, shows how the Myerberg offers more than art classes. It’s a warm, welcoming environment where members like Bess, Mark, and Chuck are enjoying life to the fullest every day. Click here to read the story.
