A Small Act of Care Brings Fresh Opportunity to Woodland Gardens II

August 7, 2025

At CHAI’s Woodland Gardens II senior housing community, a small act of care grew into a fresh opportunity for community building. Last fall, the planters in the community garden were overgrown and overlooked. While onsite, Steve Merson from Southway Builders, Inc. noticed and stepped up to do something. He gathered Southway volunteers, who worked alongside volunteers from The Franklin Group and other partners to bring the planters back to life. Rodney Butler, Resident Services Coordinator, put it best, “The planters are no longer overgrown. They are now thriving spaces filled with fresh vegetables and renewed purpose. These small changes are having a big impact, not just on the look of our community, but also on the sense of pride and togetherness we all share.” CHAI is proud to have supported this project alongside our dedicated partners. The transformation is visible, and it shows that change is possible when we work together.
