A Moving Celebration Rekindles Memories
Last month, the Edward A. Myerberg Center honored those who served our country at its annual Veterans Day Celebration. Over 100 attendees listened intently as Vietnam vet, Barry Steelman shared his experience serving overseas, closing with details about the day he learned the war was over and he would be going home. The troops cheered, then fell silent, and officers played the Beatles’ Here Comes the Sun. As Barry closed his speech, the band from Voices for Vets, a nonprofit that performs for veterans, played the same song in tribute to that powerful moment. The band continued with favorites from the ‘60s and ‘70s as attendees tapped toes and got up to dance. When the band played the theme song for each branch of the military, those who served stood to be recognized. It was an honor to bring together community to celebrate our vets.
